The Order of Sons of Italy in America was founded in 1905 as a mutual aid society to assist the influx of Italian immigrants to the US. One of things the OSIA did was to provide its members with a burial benefit for members’ families. Ancestry.com has some records of OSIA/FUM records for early 20th century America, including several for Giovanni Oliva. One indicates the payment of a death benefit, noting that he died during a surgical operation June 28, 1926 at the age of 58. It also states he became a member of the Order Sons of Italy of America (OSIA, at the time FUM) November 5, 1917. Looking back at the OSIA records provided some helpful information.
Giovanni was a member of the M. Buonnaroti lodge 765 of Philadelphia.
